Okay, first off, pin that Nami extension to your Chrome toolbar the second it's installed. Saves you hunting for it every time. Why? You'll be popping it open constantly for dApps, NFTs, whatever. In my experience, forgetting to pin it means you're clicking through extensions like a noob every five minutes. Annoying.
Chrome based browsers only, by the way. Brave, Edge, whatever works. No Safari support yet. That's the deal.
Head to namiwallet.io and grab the extension from the Chrome store. Make sure it's the real one - over 60k users, devs from Berry Pool and SpaceBudz crew. Solid.
Click the extension icon. Hit "Create new wallet." Accept terms. Boom, 24-word seed phrase pops up. Write it down on paper, hide it good. No photos, no cloud. Why 24 words? Makes it way harder to crack than the usual 12-word stuff like Metamask. I usually stash mine in a fireproof box.
Confirm the phrase by typing it back. Name your account - "Daily Spender" or whatever. Set a strong password, confirm it. Hit create. Done. Wallet's live.
But wait. One account per wallet in Nami. Sub accounts act like separate buckets under one roof. Create more via settings if you want isolated pots for staking vs. trading.
Heads up though. Nami pulls just one wallet from your old seed. Multiple wallets there? Confusion city. Best move: Send funds to a fresh Nami wallet. Keeps it clean. I do that - Daedalus as my vault, Nami for daily action.
Click "Receive." QR code and address show up. Copy or scan from your exchange or other wallet. Funds hit quick - Cardano fees are dirt cheap, like 0.17 ADA per tx usually.
Sending? Hit "Send," paste address or handle, amount. Optional message. Confirm password. Gone in seconds.
Pro tip: Always double check addresses. Copy paste errors suck. And test with 1 ADA first if it's a new spot.
Switch to "Collectibles" tab - that Gameboy icon. Your Cardano NFTs live here. Bought some on JPG.store? They'll auto show once confirmed.
To buy: Connect Nami to the marketplace. Click buy, confirm tx, enter password. Easy. Sending an NFT? Same as ADA - select from collectibles, send to address.
What's next? Deposit ADA, connect to CNFT.io or whatever, snag some. Fees minimal. In my experience, Nami's NFT view is cleaner than Yoroi for quick flips.
Potential snag: NFT not showing? Refresh wallet or check tx history. Cardano syncs fast, but dApps lag sometimes. Patience.
Got ADA? Stake it. Click connect to a pool site, pick one (low fees, good ROA), hit join. Pays ~2 ADA deposit + tiny fee first time. Rewards auto collect every epoch - 5 days.
Withdraw? Instant, no lockup. Minimum 2 ADA to claim rewards. I stake everything not trading. Why does this matter? 4-5% APY free money.
Undelegating? Same process, reverse it. Fees around 0.17 ADA again.
Minting NFTs or dApp stuff? Need collateral. Settings > Collateral. Set it to 5 ADA default.
Why? Cardano nodes verify scripts. Fail? They burn collateral for wasted CPU/memory. Spam protection. Success? You keep it. Lose max 5 ADA on a flop. Sustainable.
I bump mine to 10 sometimes for heavy DeFi. Toggle in settings.
24-word seed. Check. Hardware wallet connect? Yup - Ledger or Trezor via settings. Sign txs on device, never exposes keys.
Whitelist sites: Settings > Whitelist. Add JPG.store, SundaeSwap. Skips popups next time.
Custom node? Advanced. Settings > Network > Custom RPC. Ditch Blockfrost for your own light node. Faster balances, less trust.
Issues? Lost password? Seed recovers it anywhere. Browser crash? Reinstall, import seed. But never share seed. Phishing sites fake connects - always check URL.
Dark mode toggle settings. USD/EUR switch too. Nice touches.
| Feature | Nami | Yoroi | Daedalus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser Extension | Yes (Chrome) | Yes | Desktop App |
| NFT Tab | Dedicated | Basic | Tokens Only |
| Seed Words | 24 | 15/24 | 24 |
| Hardware Support | Yes | Yes | Limited |
| Stake Rewards Min | 2 ADA | 2 ADA | 2 ADA |
| Sync Speed | Light Node Fast | Fast | Slow Full Node |
See? Nami wins on speed and NFT ease. Daedalus drags with full node sync - gigs of data.
Go to site, find "Connect Wallet." Pick Nami. Sign tx - that's the popup. Some need a tiny ADA send first, like 0.5 ADA to link (they refund minus fee).
CNFT example: Add wallet, send exact amount they show. Confirms link. Time limit usually.
Disconnect anytime via wallet popup. Whitelist skips re signs.
Clear cache. Check network - Mainnet only for real action. Testnet/Preview for play. Wrong network? Tx fails silent.
Settings > Create new account. Fresh address, same seed. Switch via dropdown.
Great for: Staking account, trading account, HODL account. No cross contam if hacked.
I run three. Keeps me organized. Sound familiar?
Clock icon. All sends, receives, stakes, NFT moves. Cute icons per type. Filterable.
Export? Not native yet. Screenshot or note manually. Fees always logged - expect 0.17-0.2 ADA per action.
Funds not showing? Wrong network. Switch Mainnet.
Tx pending forever? Cardano congestion rare, but check pooltool.io for status. Retry.
Password forgot? Seed import new one. Old data gone though.
Extension permissions scare you? Yeah, "read all site data" warning. Normal for wallets. They need it for dApp connects. No Gmail stealing here.
Mobile? No app yet. Plans coming. Use desktop for now.
That's it. Nami's my Cardano daily driver. Clean UI, quirky icons. Handles ADA, tokens, NFTs like a champ. No mobile hurts, but extension's buttery.
Honestly, if you're in Cardano, grab it. Questions? Hit me up like we're chatting.
One more: Testnet play. Settings > Network > Preview/Preprod. Free ADA faucets online. Practice without risk.
Ledger Nano X? Settings > Hardware. Connect device, select account. Now txs need Ledger approve. Keys stay offline.
Works with Yoroi transfers too. Stake safe.
Custom themes? Avatar upload settings. Fun.
You're set. Go stack some ADA.
